Compelling Website Design: What Works…What Doesn’t

Today’s business is expected to have Web presence and people’s expectations of Website design change daily as the technologies evolve. This highly interactive in-depth session builds on the concepts discussed in User Interface Design and Usability: Whys and Wherefores. Principles of good user interface design will be discussed and illustrated in the context of the Worldwide Web and HTML documents. Page layout, navigation, aesthetics, color, fonts, readability, graphics, multimedia, and animations are just some of the topics that will be covered in this highly interactive session. This workshop is intended for any level designer/developer of World Wide Web sites.

At the end of this class, participants will:

  • Know what compelling means in the context of the World Wide Web
  • Know the elements of a compelling website
  • Understand the phenomenon of changing expectations
  • Understand the relationship between compelling website design and user-centered design principles
  • Be familiar with more than 25 general design and technical Do’s and Don’ts of websites
  • Know when and where it is appropriate to use (or not use) commonly available tools and widgets
  • Have seen more than 50 "live" examples of good and bad design from the World Wide Web

Read some quotes from people who have attended GUIguy's seminars...

More detailed information on any of these sessions is available by writing with your request.

And, BTW, the GUIguy is always looking for new examples of applications and websites that demonstrate both good and bad design and/or usability. If you see something that might be a candidate for inclusion in a seminar, let him know via email or send a message from the contacts page.
